Fourth martial law in Pakistan was imposed by General Pervez Musharraf
On 12 October 1999, General Pervez Musharraf, the then commander in chief of Pakistan army, imposed fourth martial law in the country by ousting the then Prime Minister, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
Pervez Musharraf took over control of Pakistan and remained head of the state till 2008. Both Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif were arrested along with other Pakistan Muslim League (PML N) parliamentarians and were later sent in exile.
