What is Umrah?

Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah,the holiest city for all Muslims around the world. Unlike Hajj, a pilgrim can undertake Umrah at any time of the year.

Umrah is Arabic word which means “to visit a populated place”. In Umrah pilgrimage, pilgrims are required to perform two key rituals that are Tawaf e Kaaba and Sa’ee. Umrah is not an obligatory worship. It is rather Sunnah which has great reward.

How many types of Umrah are there?

1 Umrah ul Mufradah

It is that Umrah which can be performed at any time of year. It is independent of Hajj and pilgrims are free to perform it whenever they feel it feasible.

2 Umrah ul Tamattu

It is that Umrah which can be performed only in conjunction with Hajj. This form of Umrah is dependent on Hajj and can be performed only during Hajj days before the commencement of Hajj.

Important Points To Remember: It is important to remember that there is no difference in requirements, performance and rituals of both the above mentioned types of Umrah.
