What is Istilam?
Kissing of Hijr e Aswad, also known as Black Stone is called Istilam.
During Hajj and Umrah pilgrims are required to kiss Hijr e Aswad before starting Tawaf. If due to crowd they cannot kiss the stone then they should touch it and then kiss hand and if this is also not possible then pilgrims should raise hands towards it by making a gesture of touching it and then start Tawaf. In last case kissing of hand is not necessary.
