What are Pakistan important mineral resources?
Natural resources availability and its proper usage play an important role in the development and prosperity of a nation. God has gifted Pakistan with a large number of natural resources. Some of these natural resources are listed below.
Mineral Oil
The country has deposits of mineral oils at Attock, Chakwal, Dadu, Potwar Plateau, Dhodhak, Badin, Hyderabad, Kot Mayyal and Dhullian. Only 15 per cent of country’s need is fulfilled by these deposits.
Coal
In Pakistan biggest coal mines are located at Harnai, Sharag, Mach, Khost, Thatta and Larkana. These mines satisfy only 11 per cent of country’s needs.
Natural Gas
Natural gas reserves in Pakistan are located at Sui, Khairpur, Hundi, Mazrani, Seri, Pir Koh, Mayyal, Dhodhak, Dhullian and Kandhkot. The country has largest reserves but it is expected that the country would face its shortage in near future due to its foolishly and un-administered used in the country.
Iron Ore
Its deposits are located in Kala Bagh (largest deposit), Chitral, Khuzdar, Muslim Bagh, and Hazara district. These iron ore deposits are mostly of poor quality.
Gypsum
Its reserves are located at Dera Ghazi Khan, Mianwali, Kohat, Rohri, Sibi and Quetta. It is used in Plaster of Paris, cement, bleaching powder and chemical fertilizers.
Chromites
Its reserves are located at Malakand, Muslim Bagh, Waziristan (North), Chaghi and Kharan. It is used in the making of airplanes, steel, dyes and photography.
Copper
It is used in the making of electricity goods. Its reserves are located in Saindak and Chaghai district.
Marble
Pakistan has reserves of highest quality marble. Its reserves are present in Swat, Mardan, Chaghi and Khyber Agency. Black and White marbles reserve is located in Attock at Kala Chitta Hills.
Limestone
It is used in cement, paper, glass and soap industry. Its reserves are located at Moghul Kot, Dera Ghazi Khan, Hyderabad, Ranipur, Jhelum, Kot Diji and Manghopir.
Salt
Pakistan has world’s largest mineral salt reserves located at Potwar Plateau and the biggest salt mine is at Khewra in district Jhelum.
